Home Ownership

10pm, rain all day, then the sounds of Niagara from the basement emanate.

J says, "Come quick!" Then, "What will we do?"

The Sump Pump is pumping with gusto, only not into the drain hose, rather, into the air, and into the nearby electrical socket. Thar she blows! as the Yokens signage once said. Grabbing a plastic snow shovel, I kind of redirected the shower off of the electrical outlet and sort of back into the sump hole/onto my pants long enough to pull the plug on the pump. The DIY drain hose implementation of the former homeowner (with its many hose clamps) had succumbed to oxidization and the hose had blasted off the pump.

The culprit:

We borrowed two hose clamps from the currently unused nearby well water pump as replacements and stopped the flood for a temporary fix.
