Imagining a return to form sometime soon...

After many spinning/gym sessions and what seems like a long winter ("Do you think?"), today was my first outdoor group ride of the season/since hip surgery. The group part was a happy accident because my neighbor's house was the egress point of this particular ride. I was getting ready to slip out for a ride of my own (my first outdoor ride on my road bike post internal fixation). They saw me from across the street and invited me along; I'm very glad they did. I wanted to not slow them down but it was not an issue--or, if it was I was not made to feel that it mattered. We rode the so-called "River" loop which was what I intended to do today. Windy, gray, and a little rain; I felt much more motivated with a group than I would have as a soloist.

There were a couple of points where folks put the hammer down a bit, that early season test feel. In one case, a faux town line sprint, just for giggles. Then, near the end of the trip, a little more serious, an actual sprint with P testing JM. Some banging of gears and sawing of bikes; standing and mashing, just to see. And, I think to everyone's surprise, I grabbed a wheel and hung onto it. I couldn't do anything about it like actually come around, hahaha, but there I was, stuck to a wheel. It's a good start, I say. Here's the data visual. The cursor values are for my attempt at a "sprint:"
